Support Services

Support for you when you're back at home

As well as the Adelaide Obstetrics & Fertility home support services (such as our qualified lactation consultant), there are a number of third-party providers who can help you with settling into motherhood.

Ashford Hospital’s Newborn Support is a service run by lactation consultants and midwives, with two days per week dedicated to supporting mothers with their new baby – phone 08 8375 5222.

Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) offers an initial home visit from two to four weeks after birth. Consent for this visit is normally obtained from you by a midwife in the postnatal ward after you have delivered—phone 1300 733 606 Monday – Friday 9.00 am – 4.40 pm.

Other CaFHS services include CaFHS Local Centres, where health and weight checks can be carried out, and a Day Service, which you can attend with your baby for a half or full day for advice on feeding and settling.

Parent Helpline provides telephone-based information and support from a registered nurse 7.15 am – 9.15 pm, with after-hours calls redirected to the National Health Direct line—phone 1300 364 100.

Parenting Groups are a great way to meet other new parents to share experiences over a coffee or tea and arranged by calling CaFHS—phone 1300 733 606.

Monday – Friday 9.00 am – 4.40 pm.

Lactation consultants / registered midwives who can support you in one-on-one home visits include Brad Allen – phone 0408 271 841 and Jill Bruce – phone 0416 008 775.

The Australian Breastfeeding Association provides telephone-based counselling seven days a week – phone 1800 686 286.

Breast Feeding Day Clinics can be attended at each of Adelaide’s three major public hospitals, providing assistance and education for breastfeeding of 6-week to 12-week-olds – phone Flinders Medical Centre on 08 8204 4216, the Lyell McEwin Hospital on 08 8182 9380, or the Women’s and Children’s Hospital on 08 8161 7958.
