During your pregnancy
Once you’re pregnant, Adelaide Obstetrics & Fertility is here to help—24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our antenatal care starts with a comprehensive first visit in your eighth week (or earlier if you prefer) and then continues through your first, second and third trimesters.
24 hour care
Adelaide Obstetrics & Fertility is set up so that we can provide the best care for you throughout your pregnancy. One of our obstetricians is always on call, with a second obstetrician as back-up—and you can call us at any time.
Initial appointment
If you haven’t been in contact with us prior to pregnancy, we recommend booking your first appointment with us between 7 and 10 weeks into your pregnancy. You can always book to see us earlier if you prefer.
First trimester
Your first trimester is very exciting and emotional—and for many women, the time they are most likely to experience morning sickness and a general sense of fatigue. But don’t worry—this is all completely normal, and we’re here to explain everything.
Second trimester
Your second trimester is often the most enjoyable part of pregnancy as your energy returns, the nausea subsides, and you really start to look pregnant. We will continue to monitor your health with some important scans, and some further tests towards the end of the trimester.
Third trimester
During your third trimester, we will see you more frequently and discuss in more detail your preferences and plans for the delivery of your baby.
Antenatal Classes
Our private antenatal classes are small so that expectant parents can ask questions and learn in a safe and supportive environment. All our classes are free and offered exclusively to Adelaide Obstetrics & Fertility patients.
Tests and scans
To get the best overall view of the health of your pregnancy, we book a number of important antenatal tests and ultrasounds. The number of tests and scans can seem overwhelming, but don’t worry, we’re here to explain everything—and to help.
